Ceramic tiling takes centre stage in Swedish leisure centre

The Tinnerbäcksbadet leisure facility in Linköping, Sweden is an example of urban architectural design combining elements of minimalism with a natural feel.

A crucial element of the new design is the extensive use of ceramic tiles throughout its interior. 18,000 m² of tiles, made by German manufacture Agrob Buchtal, help to lend a feeling of peace and comfort to the interior spaces, while the tiles, manufactured using natural materials, are designed to give a continuity and harmony to the facility.

The tiles provide a pleasing look to the centre while ensuring the safety of the facility’s users. They are slip-resistant and easy to clean; both important factors where safety and hygiene are crucial.

The materials used in the tiling and other aspects of the building design are long-lasting, with a high level of durability. The look of the building itself, with its emphasis on minimalism, simplicity and natural colours, have been designed to help maintain a fresh and appealing look for many years.

Architects DSN and Agrob Buchtal have worked together to create a cohesive space which gives organic continuity without visual monotony. The building first opened last year and has received much praise for its unique architecture.
