Designers at Studio Proba have created a striking example of how a functional living space can serve as a vibrant, immersive art installation.
An outdoor swimming pool at a Miami private home has been transformed by a new pool floor made from custom ceramic tiles. Studio founder Alex Proba worked with Guadalajara-based ceramics producers to create a unique design. With over 70 years of experience, they have produced tiles for the pool combining durability, functionality and visual appeal.
Inspiration for the design draws from the natural forms and colours of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Beneath the pool’s water lies an abstract representation of a submerged coral reef, with organic forms embodying a sense of life, movement and fluidity, heightened by the ever-shifting light and movement of the water itself.
By embedding an art installation within a functional living space, Proba seeks to draw visitors into an interaction with the art, turning them from mere observers into active participants. Swimmers in the pool are engaging with the art, observing it from different angles and viewpoints as they enjoy the water.
