Nottinghamshire leisure centre undergoing eco-friendly refurbishment

The Cotgrave Leisure Centre in Nottingham is undergoing an extensive refurbishment and decarbonisation project as part of a government-funded upgrade.

Alongside planned improvements to the reception area, poolside changing rooms and toilets, the upgraded centre will have widened corridors, improved facilities for users with mobility issues and a new dance studio.

The refurbishment of the centre includes the installation of an innovative new heating system. The brand new system is making use of a new air-source heat pump unit: the Net Zero Pod. This will provide heat using electricity from renewable sources, while giving 250-300% energy efficiency. The system should be up and running by the end of December 2024.

£250,000 of government funding has been provided for the installation of solar panels on the roof of the centre. These should provide up to 55,000 KWh of electricity per year. Sustainability and energy efficiency are clearly at the heart of the project.

The work is part of a £5.2m project by Rushcliffe Borough Council to make improvements to both Cotgrave and Keyworth Leisure Centres. It aims to enhance the user experience by upgrading the facilities at the centres, while focusing heavily on energy efficiency and the reduction of carbon emissions.
