Supplying tiles for a mural in Croydon

In May 2023, we were approached by Tide Construction to install two four-meter by two-meter tiled mural installations on a roof terrace in Croydon.

Following a concise design and artwork brief, we digitally printed 272 20×20 cm tiles. The high footfall area needs to withstand general wear and tear and weathering, so our team applied a gloss finish to the porcelain tiles and kept the area of grouting to a small 2mm width.

Using a gloss finish on tiles has a multitude of benefits in the design installations. Its smooth and rich surface makes the cleaning process easy and makes the colour pop in terms of richness and shininess.

The two murals on opposite walls were installed between June and July 2023 giving the team a tight deadline to work towards. This gave the DCCT team a shorter production time than usual, but everyone loved the challenge.

On the project, director at Hunter Tiling, the installer of the mural said: “The installation at Croydon went well. I was impressed with DCCT.

“I was particularly impressed with how well the tiles were labelled on the tiles and the boxes. This system really helped. The stickers on the tiles come off easily when soaked which is a real time saver so keep on using what stickers they are!”
