We were absolutely thrilled to be part of the reimagination of the iconic The Savoy Grill, by Gordon Ramsay.
Contractors Thompsons approached us with a specialist request to help them bring Gordon Ramsay and Designers Afroditi’s vision to life.
The world-renowned restaurant underwent a transformation earlier this year and reopened showcasing its 1920s Hollywood glam interior. The styling and beauty of the interior is wonderfully described in a write up about the re-opening in Luxury Hospitality Magazine as “The renaissance imbibes a Gatsby era, vibrant and opulent”.
This couldn’t be truer, and such a stunning revival wouldn’t be complete without custom tiles. These tiles pushed Digital Ceramics Custom Tiles and our solutions-based ethos to a new level, leading us to develop an entirely bespoke casting.
Thompsons approached us looking for conceptual ideas for feather tiles. So, our Director, Mark Wood, who is always on hand to come up with creative new ways to deliver custom tiles to his customers, presented his idea.
Mark commissioned an artist’s sketch of a feather, which was detailed, delicate and refined. A resounding yes to the sketch meant Mark and the Digital Ceramics Custom Tiles team could create a mould based on the artists drawing and deliver several prototypes.
The custom feather tiles were slip casted into moulds, kiln fired at 1350c with a satin glaze finish, and showcased to Thompsons. These were signed off thanks to their quality and detail, and 1600 custom feather tiles were produced for the restaurant.
The feather tiles were finished with a satin glaze to complement the 1920s Hollywood glam style and installed on a selection of walls in the restaurant.
Mark said: “I’m really pleased with how the custom feather tiles came out. They’re truly stunning and are a real showstopper in the restaurant.
“They epitomise what I love so much about using custom tiles. No other restaurant will have these feature walls. The photos alone showcase how stand out the tile fitted walls are so you can only imagine the visual impact they have in person.”
The fitout has garnered a great deal of media coverage and it’s no surprise thanks to its beauty.
