Urban Eye founder, Miles Watson, an artist in his own right and lead artist on this project, commissioned us to print and produce the mural which is based on drawings from local children attending Rugby Portobello Trust. The Trust supports young people from the area, many of whom lost family members or knew victims of the fire.
A local resident himself, Miles is dedicating the mural to residents, in a bid to bring a vision of positivity and regeneration to the area. He said: “There has been so much sadness and grieving, it was time to lift the community’s spirit with something positive. The theme of the art is Growth and Renewal which is especially relevant since the estate is currently undergoing a major renewal drive.”
Urban Eye has created many murals in its 20 years, however this is their first ceramic tile mural. They approached us after researching many manufactur-ers and were impressed with our work and really gelled with our team.
We hope to have a great partnership for life with Miles, who added: “The pro-ject has had a wonderful response locally. The quality of design transfer, col-our accuracy and finish is excellent; we are very grateful to Mark, Gavin and Eileen for their input and kind support in what was at times a challenging pro-ject. We have new projects underway and look forward to working with them again very soon.”
The Grenfell Mural is 9 sq/m in area and can be seen on the exterior wall of Camelford Court on the corner of Clarendon Road and Cornwall Crescent, postcode: W11 1TX.
